ASSESSMENT OF SOCIO-ECONOMIC DISPARITIES IN VOCATIONAL EDUCATION OUTCOMES

ABSTRACT: This study explores strategies for addressing socio-economic disparities in vocational education outcomes, aiming to promote equity and inclusivity within vocational training programs. The objectives were to (1) identify socio-economic factors influencing vocational education outcomes, (2) assess current disparities in access, retention, and achievement among socio-economically diverse students, and (3) propose interventions to mitigate socio-economic barriers and enhance educational equity in vocational settings. A survey research design was employed to gather data from vocational students, educators, and policymakers, offering insights into the challenges faced by socio-economically disadvantaged students and potential solutions. The sample size comprised 250 participants, selected through purposive sampling to include stakeholders from economically diverse backgrounds across different states in Nigeria. The case study focused on Kaduna State, known for its efforts in addressing educational disparities and promoting inclusive policies. Findings revealed that socio-economic disparities significantly impacted vocational education outcomes, including dropout rates and career advancement opportunities. Effective strategies included providing financial aid and scholarships, enhancing career counseling services, and integrating support programs for socio-economically disadvantaged students. Recommendations included advocating for equitable funding allocation, expanding access to vocational scholarships, and implementing targeted interventions to support vulnerable student populations.
